Growing up, Dr. Kelly Nelson always knew that she wanted to be a doctor, but wasn’t sure about what kind. Her mother, an OBGYN, always told her stories about surgeries and babies being born, and Dr. Kelly was determined to pursue a career focused on helping people. During her last year of her undergraduate studies at University of Washington, she accompanied her mom and several other students on a medical mission trip to Panama. As she was majoring in Spanish, she was asked to translate for the Panamanian dentist who was on her trip. She was able to experience firsthand the incredible impact he had on his patients, and from then on, Dr. Kelly knew that dentistry was the right fit for her.
